A focus on own-brand finishing components allows for unique 84.5mm press-fit bottom bracket bearings – while there’s a converter kit if you ever want to run ‘standard’ cranks and bearings. When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. The one-piece front end reduces loads on potential stress point, such as the shock mounting, and the centre-of-bike and in-line shock position both improves plushness and looks tidier.įine detailing is superb, and we especially like the way the front gear mech mounts on the swing arm. Specialized claims a 14 percent lateral stiffness boost over the front end of the 2008 bike, although the frame is lighter. The steerer is 1.125in at the top and 1.5in at the integrated crown, with the lower headset bearing recessed well into the base of the tube so that it’s braced against the down tube structure. Both the fork and the back end offer 100mm of travel. The top tube, head tube and down tube of the Az1 frame form effectively a one-piece structure, layered with suitably woven sections of carbon composite cloth to create the required strength, stiffness and ride feel.Īz1 means ‘as one’ – see what they’ve done there? Increasing the overall carbon content of the frame meant creating new dropouts, a new lighter oversized bottom bracket shell and a head tube to take the tapered steerer tube of Specialized’s own superlight (3.1lb) E100 fork. Frame: light, stiff & superbly detailedĬlaimed weight for the frame is 2040g, including the shock and FlowControl Mini Brain. A wider range of ‘Brain Fade’ options than on previous models means there are now more opportunities to get it wrong as well as right.Īnd of course, it still takes a bit of nerve to hammer into rocky sections of trail on what essentially feels more like a hardtail until the fork and shock Brains sense that they need to kick in. Experiment and you’ll find ways of making it do just what you want it to. Perhaps stating the obvious, the key here is to spend time setting up the Brain shock and fork. It’s not exactly sofa-plush, but it’s forgiving over rough terrain to a point where you know it’s helping you to maintain forward momentum and make the sort of line choices you’d be loath to make on a hardtail, and you never end up feeling that you’re losing speed elsewhere. While racers obviously have a lot to gain from a bike like the Epic, the surprise is that it feels less like a pure race thoroughbred than other 100mm travel superlights we’ve ridden. It exhibits none of the nervousness or Bambi handling vagueness that often afflicts bikes of this weight. The new Epic is noticeably sharper than its predecessor on the trail. Specialized’s claim of substantial boosts to front end and drivetrain stiffness rings true. We were surprised and impressed by how sturdy and stable the Epic felt. You may think that any 22lb bike is going to feel a little bit fragile on a challenging trail. With carefully retuned Brain set-ups in the fork as well as in the rear shock, first impressions are that the new Epic will now appeal to almost anyone searching for a temptingly light, undoubtedly fast and well controlled trail bike. The good news is that Specialized has managed to maintain the solid, reliably fast and taut ride character that pleases most racers, at the same time as losing weight, adding stiffness and making their unique Brain inertia valve shock systems work just the way we’d always hoped they would. There’s no doubting its race credentials, but the question we wanted to answer at the press launch was whether it was still a purist race bike, or had it become the trail bike that we want to ride? In 2008 we thought the Stumpjumper S-Works felt a little bit better. It’ll cost you a lot of cash, but it looks like the Epic S-Works might be the highlight of the Specialized 2009 range. The race-tuned Brain configuration means that you still feel a little more harshness on initial square-edge impacts than you do, for example, on the plusher longer-travel Stumpjumper, but this is a far more versatile bike than before. Ride & handling: unusually forgiving for a race rigĭespite its fairly aggressive geometry, the Epic has a much more relaxed and balanced feel than previous Brain-equipped Epics, which will add appeal for trail riders as well as racers.

One design goal for circulators is to reduce reflections at the input port by matching the junction. Since a TE 10 waveguide mode has no variations in the transverse direction, it’s possible to simplify the analysis with a 2D model.ĢD circulator geometry with dielectric tuning elements. The model analyzes the transmission of a 10-GHz TE 10 wave through the circulator. Three-port microwave circulator geometry. A ferrite post is placed at the center of the joint and is magnetized by a H 0 bias field along the axis. Within each branch, identical dielectric tuning elements are used to match the junction. The lossless three-port ferrite circulator example shown below is made from three rectangular waveguide sections joined at 120° angles. Modeling a Three-Port Ferrite Circulator with the COMSOL® Software In this example, we use the RF Module, an add-on to the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, to accurately analyze both the ferrite material and the inner workings of the circulator. However, the choice of material can affect how a wave propagates between the circulator’s ports. To build a circulator, engineers often use anisotropic materials like ferrites due to their high electrical resistance and high magnetic permeability. One common application of microwave circulators is a duplexer, where a circulator enables a transmitter and receiver in a radio communication system or radar unit to share a common antenna while still isolating the receiver from the transmitter. Licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons. Due to this functionality, electrical engineers use circulators to isolate microwave components.Ī simple schematic of a circulator. In a circulator, a wave incident originating in one port can only be coupled to the next port. Microwave circulators are nonreciprocal multiport devices that often contain three ports in a “Y” shape. To ensure that circulators function successfully, electrical engineers can study their designs with electromagnetics simulation.Ī Quick Introduction to Microwave Circulators This characteristic makes circulators useful for applications that involve coupling transmitters and receivers to common antennas. In a circulator, however, the microwave signal always exits at the next available port. This prevents any damage to signal source or equipment connected on port-1.Circulators are a bit like traffic circles (also known as rotaries or roundabouts), where motion occurs in one direction only and each pathway doubles as an entrance and exit. Hence any reflections from port-2 to port-1 is eliminated. ➤Moreover any RF energy which enters from port-2 will get routed towards matched termination connected on the Signal from port-2 to port-1 with maximum attenuation. It allows signal from port-1 to port-2 with minimum attenuation and ➤When any one port of a 3 port circulator is terminated with 50 Ohm, it becomes Isolator. Isolator passes RF energy in one direction. ➤RF isolator is similar to diode functionally,īut unlike diode which passes current in one direction only, ➤Let us understand how rf isolator works. It helps in routing the RF signal in desired direction in RF circuit designs such as RF transceiver, It is known as traffic conductors of the RF energy as designed by the RF system engineer. Isolator is a passive ferrite device which allows energy to pass in one direction only and preventsĪny reflections to travel in the other direction. When he gets beaten he comes back with more health until he maxes out. Both Majima and Kiryu have two and they cycle once beaten. Second one gives you silent shoes which lower your profile on random encounters, the third one gives you the encounter finder that marks encounters on your map including Mr. Try and do the side story with the producer and the two Miracle Johnson ones selecting the black box as a reward. Repeat until he's down.Į: Oh a couple more things. You can safely hit him 2-3 times on the ground. (rush works best for me, brawler gains more heat, reason to avoid walls is that heat move does less damage) Once he's down hold L2 to disable heat attacks and stomp his ass to get enough heat to do it again when he gets up. Keep your distance and build up heat, while having the knife equipped hit him with a heat attack avoiding walls. Buy a few heat drinks from the drug stores. (think there is one on the DLC pack) you can buy them. I would focus on Kiryu since he's the one where it makes most sense with. This way you can have him get all your money, then multiply it by beating him. If you are wearing the avarice shirt and/or you have a skill with Kiryu you get the money he's carrying + a multiplier. Any money you lose to him will be collected by him so once he's beaten you get it all back. At that point he carries ~1bn yen on him minimum at all times. Shakedown every time you meet him and you'll have more than enough money for his upgrades, which are cheaper than Kiryu's.Ĭlick to expand.Mr. But even if you don't do that, just fight Mr. I haven't really used this method with Majima, since he doesn't have that bonus, but iirc avarice shirt should help you with that, which you need to unlock from a sidequest or equipment searches first. With all of that said, i only farmed that much money to see how high the cap is, but it's way more than you'll ever realistically need, so feel free to stop at any time. After you fight him just enter and exit a building and there he will be again on the map. Shakedown on the map, thus making finding him much less of a hassle. The second black box contains the encounter finder, which shows the location of Mr. Choose the black box as a reward in the last two substories, as it's the more useful reward. Later you can overhear a conversation about the world famous popstar Miracle Johnson near theater square, and the third one triggers when you go to Maharaja (only shows up once you unlock the real estate business). The first one is playing a producer for a TV show, it triggers when you talk to two guys near the shrine in Kamurocho. To make farming easier, you should also get the encounter finder item for Kiryu, for which you need to beat 3 substories. Equip sacrifice stones when you're trying to win, they will save you in case he gets a killing hit in. Make sure to diversify your heat moves, as the damage done depletes if you keep using the same ones in a fight. After that use heat action moves to deplete his health further. Slime gun does great damage on Shakedown and builds up heat. You get the slime gun and sacrifice stone from the free dlc packs that you receive at the shrine/temple, which means you can also purchase as many as you want from the weapon store after that. Shakedown easier, stock up on health drinks, Tauriner (for heat, in case you have problems getting in close to build it), a few weapons for heat actions, slime shotguns and sacrifice stones. Each time you win you will get back all the money you lost in your last battle + 50%, so it adds up quickly. Shakedown bonus at the shrine in Kamurocho and then repeatedly win and lose against Mr. It was on my second playthrough, but since nothing carries over to Legend difficulty, it wasn't NG+. The 86-proof single-barrel spirit won double gold at the prestigious San Francisco International Spirits Competition this year. Both spirits are solid, but go with the bourbon. Founder Marsha Milam named her booze business after her war hero ancestor, Ben Milam, who fought in the Texas Revolution. Another Blanco whiskey distillery, Ben Milam Whiskey makes two products, a bourbon and a rye, that are steeped in Texas history. His method, which he’s mostly keeping a trade secret for now, is an effort to be eco-friendly.īen Milam Bourbon Whiskey, $43. He decided to break the whiskey tradition of barrel maturation after reading about a barrel shortage a few years ago that was making it difficult for bourbon producers to continue their craft. That’s thanks to local entrepreneur Lawrence Sasso, who found a way to impart the effects of barrel-aging on Austonian Whiskey using significantly less wood. This amber-hued beaut hasn’t spent a lick of time in new American white oak barrels - or any kind of barrels at all - but it sure tastes a lot like bourbon. “This is backyard BBQ whiskey at its best,” according to Andalusia.Īustonian Whiskey, $29.99. Rather than using peat while smoking malted barley, Andalusia’s co-founders - one of whom previously worked as a brewer at the nearby Real Ale Brewing - relied on wood traditionally used to smoke Texas barbecue: oak, mesquite and apple. The first of two Blanco whiskey distilleries, Andalusia has introduced this unconventional single-malt as a Texas take on Scotch. “It's a better product now and probably better for cocktails at a higher proof.”Īndalusia Whiskey’s Stryker Smoked Single Malt, $49.99. “It's not a very smart decision because it ends up costing a lot, but it's true to our vision,” Troy Kooper said, noting that very few spirits increase their proof once on the market. The husband-and-wife owner of Austin’s first locally produced rye whiskey had a Christmas surprise for fans last year: Kooper Family Rye is introducing a slightly higher proof of 84 but the same price point, a decision Troy and Michelle Kooper made so the rye would be even better than it was before. It’s a pricey whiskey and worth every penny. Since Garrison, other distilleries have made Texas bourbon, but none have done it quite like the Hill Country facility. The granddaddy of Texas whiskey, Garrison proved that Texas could, in fact, make a proper bourbon from scratch and despite the heat of the southern sun that makes barrel-aging a tricky art. Garrison Brothers Straight Bourbon Whiskey, $79-$89. We compiled a similar list of these whiskeys in 2015, but with many delicious new ones added to liquor shelves in the past two years, it’s worth an update. Here are the best ones, should you be considering adding a whiskey to your Christmas wish list or wanting to get the whiskey lover in your life a bottle of something brag-worthy from this fearless state. That’s all to say that Texas makes a lot of good whiskey. Texas may not have been doing it for as long as America’s bourbon bastion, but our proud state has proven that we can still hold our own against legacy producers - perhaps in part because the whiskey industry here is still so young and willing to be adventurous. Starting from Iron Man, where Nick Fury first met Tony Stark and informed him there were other superpowered beings out there, Marvel has added end credit scenes for all the MCU movies. Before you’ve lost some weight, maybe look at non-weight bearing exercises like swimming or cycling. Weight-bearing exercise can create joint issues, so running all the time might take a toll on your knees, hips and ankles. If you are, you will need to think carefully about the type of cardio you do. “Endomorphs are more likely to be overweight. HIIT also increases the metabolic rate, not just during the session but for several hours after the session. That will get the heart rate up and increase the rate of calorie expenditure per minute, compared with steady-state training. “Once you’ve built up a good level of cardiovascular fitness, add in some HIIT or circuit training. “You definitely want cardio in there – steady-state cardiovascular exercise at lower to moderate intensity will burn fat,” says Cowan. On the exercise front a broad approach is key for endomorphs to lose weight and keep it off. “You should reduce your fat intake, because fat contains more calories per gram than carbohydrates or protein,” says Cowan, “and slightly increase how many of your calories are coming from protein.” When it comes to diet, a good starting point is less fat and more protein, with the latter helping to build and maintain muscle mass. You can reduce their calories in or increase the calories out, or ideally a mixture of both.” “You need to be in a negative calorie balance. “For endomorphs the focus should be on losing fat,” says Cowan. “Combine that with hypertrophy strength training – eight to 12 reps of an exercise, multiple sets – to promote muscle growth.” Endomorphs There is also research to suggest that consuming protein before bed can help to increase muscle protein synthesis rates overnight, and limit the duration of the fasting period when you are asleep. Your intake either side of a workout is particularly important, so maybe a protein shake before strength training and then one within an hour or so after. “If you’re an ectomorph you should consume protein regularly – every three to four hours. “Ectomorphs need to increase their calorie intake, trying to get it from healthier foods, with an emphasis on protein in the diet,” says exercise physiologist Tom Cowan. Naturally skinny types will find it harder to add muscle, so if that’s you, you’ll need to follow the fundamentals of building muscle to the letter. Here’s what you may need to take into account if you’re predominantly one body type. And while there’s no one true fitness goal everyone should be striving towards, some goals will be harder to achieve for bodies that lean towards certain types. While individuals who are exclusively one body type are extremely rare, you probably have some idea of where you fall within the Heath-Carter system. (Image credit: unknown) How To Train For Your Body Type It’s a good starting point for identifying your own body type. The chart below shows where athletes from various sports fit in the Heath-Carter system. If that’s you, try not to rub it in everyone’s face. Or the dream combo: a muscular mesomorph who can strip fat rapidly from just a couple of HIIT workouts. You could be a mix of mesomorph and endomorph where you gain muscle quickly but also put on weight easily if you relax your diet. Almost everyone is a mix, though, so it’s case of identifying your own body type and how it fits into each category. Under the Heath-Carter system, an extreme mesomorph would be rated 1-7-1, an extreme endomorph 7-1-1 and an extreme ectomorph 1-1-7. “So a 1-7-5 would be a mesoectomorph – a tall muscular person with little fat.” “You are scored in an order with endomorphy first, then mesomorph, then ectomorphy,” says McNaughton. There’s even a system for rating what mix of types you are, the Heath-Carter method, where you are given a score between one and seven for each body type (you can go outside this range, but it’s generally within those numbers). “We all have some aspects of endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy.” “The three body types exist but probably never in their pure form,” says Professor Lars McNaughton from Edge Hill University. Although there are three clear body types, it’s important to be aware that these aren’t set in stone. |
